*Because the cost varies greatly with the weight, size, and destination of an item, we can't provide a firm and fixed price quote for shipping in the shipping estimate calculator in this listing. Please provide us with your zip code and we will find a competitive shipping quote for your area. If you are happy with our estimate just let us know and we will add this cost to the listing for online checkout. Our shipping estimate will be for a door-to-door blanket wrap shipping service or white glove shipping services if requested. Delivery times vary depending on how fast we can find a shipper and how well-traveled certain areas are. We do not recommend Greyhound or a Freight service for transporting larger pieces but these are options for smaller pieces of furniture.
We can facilitate in-person purchase or pick-up during normal business hours, just let us know in advance so we can place the item on hold until you arrive. If you wish to purchase an item online first and pickup in person at a later date just let us know and we can remove the shipping costs in advance of your purchase.
Please note that the "21 business day" delivery timeline advised by Etsy on each listing may not be possible if larger furniture is being shipped across the country. Please ask us in advance of purchase for an estimated delivery time.

Item Description:
Here is a beautifully restored double pedestal "kneehole desk" M-315-W designed by Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky for Heywood Wakefield, circa 1950s. This originally Wheat stained desk is finished on the back and constructed from solid birch wood. This piece has a full-length top drawer and file drawer on the bottom left. This desk also comes with a Heywood Wakefield chair model number M-1554-C. Both pieces were acquired from their original owner and accompanied by their original purchase receipt from Zarfos Furniture Store, York, Pa dated June 3rd, 1952.

Designer - Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky
Alexis de Skhnoffsky came to the United States in the 1920s and established a reputation for his use of streamlined design. A prominent stylist of custom automobiles in the 1920s and 1930s, such as Cord, Auburn, and Studebaker, he incorporated speed and movement into other designs as well. He was an artist and contributor to Esquire Magazine, wrote and published drawings on streamlining, and designed tricycles and pedal cars for Steelcraft in 1937. His contribution to furniture design was at Heywood Wakefield, where he designed this classic kneehole desk with wood drawer handles shaped like airplane wings and other items for their Modern line.
(Fifties Furniture - Leslie Piña c.1996)

Condition
This desk was stripped sanded and stained to bring back its original look and feel. The overall finish is a slightly lighter shade than the original Heywood Wheat stain and compliments the wood grain very well. All drawers work well and this piece does have some original 1950s casters on the bottom of each leg. The chair was fully restored in the same manner as the desk and the seat does have new foam with new 1950s sage green fabric. This can easily be changed out by the new owner. The chair does have a small repair done to one armrest (this can be seen in our last photo) and the overall price does include the chair.
